DAY 3 MATCH 22 – JEON Jihee VS CHEN Meng
Match 22: JEON Jihee (KOR) 4 – 3 CHEN Meng (CHN) (11-10, 11-10, 4-11, 3-11, 5-2*, 4-5*, 5-4*)
Jeon is making the most of her late call-up to T2 Diamond Singapore, pulling off the upset of the tournament by ousting world number one Chen Meng. The Korean had to do it the hard way, coming from behind in three of the four sets she won. Down 4-9 in the first game and 6-9 in the second, Jeon kept plugging away and managed to win both. Chen was dominant in the next two sets but the FAST5 was always going to be unpredictable. Splitting the next two, the final shortened set saw Chen going 3-0 and 4-2 up but was unable to deliver the killer blow. Jeon came good, winning three straight points to pull off a famous win.
I didn’t expect to win this match, after all she’s the world number one and I came with the mindset to just take one game off her. I shall continue to enjoy being able to play another match at this arena and just go out and do my best.
My opponent played well. T2 Diamond has always been an unpredictable competition.
