DAY 3 MATCH 17 – CHEN Xingtong VS WANG Manyu
Match 17: CHEN Xingtong (CHN) 2 – 4 WANG Manyu (CHN) (11-7, 7-11, 11-6, 1-5*, 0-5*, 1-5*)
For a second straight match, the FAST5 provided the route to victory to Wang. Despite an inferior head-to-head record against Wang, Chen settled down faster and took two of the three games played in the regulation 24 minutes as both players thrilled the fans with exciting exchanges. The FAST5 proved the difference as Wang took charge, allowing Chen only two points over the three shortened games that she won to wrap up the match.
The tempo of the match picked up a lot in the FAST5 and I could feel the pressure on every point. It’s refreshing to play in T2 and to face the challenge laid down by the different format.
I was slow to get into rhythm and didn’t react fast enough in the early going. But it looks like FAST5 has come to my rescue twice now and those who have had the experience from 2017 will have a slight advantage.
