Match 20: XU Xin (CHN) 4 – 1 JEOUNG Youngsik (KOR) (11-7, 11-6, 7-11, 11-7, 5-2*)
Jeoung was unable to pick up a second straight win over a Chinese player, but it was always going to be a tall order going up against Xu Xin. The world’s foremost pen-holder got off to a fast start and never allowed his Korean opponent to settle in. Jeoung showed enough to suggest he could be a real threat with his array of shots and positive style of play. It was good enough for him to take a game off Xu but no more.
We were teammates in the Chinese professional league, so I know Jeoung well and understand that he’s on the rise. I didn’t take him lightly and made sure I played my best to secure this win. I thought we put on a good show.
