Yu Mengyu gave home fans plenty to cheer about with the incredible fight she put up as she gave the more fancied Chen Xingtong a huge fright. Despite dropping the opening three games, Yu gave herself a lifeline by edging a tight fourth game. The FAST5 games were always going to suit the Singaporean who had started quickly in all the preceding sets. Taking the fifth game 5-3, she went 4-3 ahead in the sixth but just couldn’t seal the deal as Chen fought back to close out the match.
This tournament is new to me and I’m not completely used to the format, so I’m glad to have hung on for victory. This win gives me confidence and looks like the table is producing a bit more spin for me.
