A gulf of just over 270 places separate the two players in World Rankings but host exemption Chew gave his illustrious opponent a real scare. After a tentative start, Chew kept his composure to pull level, winning the second game handily. Harimoto stormed back to take the third game but the Singaporean fought to 10-10 in the fourth before losing. The FAST5 provided no reprieve for Chew who can be proud of this outing..

It was great to be in this tournament in the company of the world’s best players. I had nothing to lose so I just went out and did my best. Tomo is very experienced and he handled the big points better.
Clarence Chew
I knew playing a local favourite would be tough but I made sure to do my research and find out more about him before the match. T2 is an exciting format and I want to do my best to make sure the audience enjoy the best of table-tennis action.
