Lin Gaoyuan would be wondering how this one slipped away, having been so dominant in building a 2-0 lead. Credit to Harimoto, he never gave up the chase and Game Four would prove crucial as the Japanese prodigy edged a point-for-point battle down the stretch. The FAST5 would test both players’ nerves and after splitting the first two games, Harimoto seized a 4-1 lead in the decider, which proved insurmountable for Lin.
It took me a while to work out how to play against Lin but I found my answers in Game 3 and knew I could build from there. Lin’s accuracy deserted him and I was able to capitalise on it. Beating a top Chinese player is a morale-booster for me.
