Wang quickly took charge of this encounter, forcing Jeon on the back foot as she won the opening two games handily. But Jeon is much improved since her 2017 T2 campaign, and her tenacity and never-say-die attitude won over many fans in Singapore. The Korean was able to pull a game back but Wang was not to be denied. A quick regroup and Wang proceeded to dial up her aggression to wrap up the tie and take home a decent US$20,000 paycheck.
I have gained a lot from this tournament, in the sense of having two matches to play myself out of trouble, and also from the experience of winning from the front foot. I’m still searching for consistency, form-wise, so it was good to have played well here.
Never easy to face a Chinese player, of course, they are always so hard to beat. I feel fortunate to have been able to come for this tournament and make it all the way to the final session. The T2 family has made me feel very welcome.
