DAY 2 MATCH 9 – FALCK Mattias vs LIN Gaoyuan
Match 9: Mattias FALCK (SWE) 1 – 4 LIN Gaoyuan (CHN) (8-11, 9-11, 10-11, 11-9, 4-5*)
Having split their most recent two meetings, Falck would’ve fancied his chances but Lin proved just a little better on the day. Despite Falck’s best efforts, Lin always found an answer. Even when trailing 6-0 in the second game, the Chinese player was able to fight his way back to win and go 2-0 up. Credit to the Swede, he finally broke through to win game 4 and earn himself a lifeline. But that was as good as it got as Lin edged a tight FAST5 to seal victory.
I served well today and also had plenty of luck on my side. It was good to be able to fight back when I was behind and things got better once I’m on the front foot. The FAST5 is exciting and unpredictable and every point needed to be played on its merit.
I had my chances but he was just better today. I should’ve taken the second game, and possibly the third. But I’m nevertheless satisfied with my performance. He’s a very good player, we met recently and I knew what to expect.
