A day to forget for Singapore’s top player Feng Tianwei on her home turf as Chen Meng gave her not much of a look in. The world number one came fully prepared having lost to Feng last month in the German Open and this time returned the favour with a 4-0 sweep. Chen’s variation caught Feng flat-footed time and again, as the Singaporean star was perhaps dulled by a recent bout of flu.
Tactically she was simply superior. She is the world number one after all and I came with the attitude of learning regardless of the result. I’ve learned which areas I should work on to improve my game.
I came into this match determined to take the game to my opponent. After losing to her in Germany, I made sure to be fully prepared and managed to execute the game plan set out by my coach (Ma Lin). It doesn’t matter who I meet next, everyone here is a high quality player and I just have to make sure I’m ready.
